Great Grooms applauds the Chamber of Commerce for ‘Brilliant Victorian Extravaganza’

Great Grooms has not opened for the past 6 years during the Victorian Extravaganza (a carnival and festival in the streets of Hungerford) – however encouraged by the organisers ‘The Hungerford Chamber of Commerce’ of which we are a member, we opened this year sending out invites to local clients to enjoy wine and mince pies with fantastic sales results.

On the Extravaganza day sales made totalled £22,529.50 and included an early 19th Century leather and gilt tooled table-top collectors cabinet (photographed) Cabinets of this type were very popular for keeping valuable and novelty items collected at the time from visits around Europe on the ‘Grand Tour’ Also sold and photographed was this Impressive Victorian extending dining table by Samuel Hawkins of Bishopsgate, London, a high quality cabinet maker with a Royal Warrant to HRH Queen Victoria specialising in unique and innovative table mechanisms – with 14 chairs also in the photo – the two sold for £12,000. The least pricey item sold was an oriental lacquer box which sold for £8. Other sales included a pair of Sheffield plated wine coolers making £1,150 and a Persian carpet which sold for £4,000 – there were 24 individual items sold
