EDWARD HENRY CORBOULD RI
An historical and genre painter who studied at the RA School. Although he produced some fine painting in oil, his main work was in watercolour, painted in wonderful colours with intricate detail. He became a member of the New Watercolour Society and first exhibited there in the same year (1937). Prince Albert first purchased â€˜The Woman Taken in Adulteryâ€™ and thereafter Corbould became Historical Painting Instructor to the Royal Family for the next 21 years. Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and other members of the Royal Family acquired many of artistâ€™s best paintings for The Royal Collection.
He exhibited at the RA, British Institute, Suffolk Street Galleries, Royal Institute, Liverpool Walker Gallery, Manchester Art Gallery and the RHA. He is represented in the Royal Collection, Victoria & Albert, British Museum, Nottingham Castle Museum, Ferens Art Gallery Hull, Southport Art Gallery, National Portrait Gallery London and the National Gallery of New South Wales Australia.
