Herbert Dicksee belonged to an illustrious artistic familyâ€¦â€¦â€¦his father John, Johnâ€™s brother Thomas Francis, Thomasâ€™s son Sir Frank, and others.
Herbert studied at the Slade School and first exhibited in 1885. He specialised in painting hounds and other dogs, bust is best known for his life depiction of lions and other wild animals. He became a member of the Royal Society of Etcher-Engravers, and his numerous etchings (particularly of wild life) are much sought by collectors, many fetching high sums at auction.
He exhibited at the RA (95), Fine Art Society (52), Liverpool Walker Gallery (44), RE (143) and elsewhere.
His original paintings of lions are rarely available to collectors.
