Product Description

The Gamekeeper’s cottage’ – an oil on canvas depicting the Gamekeeper’s cottage, family, pony and dogs. This fine painting was exhibited at the York Art Gallery, Fine Art Industrial Exhibition No. 304 from the 24th July – 31st October 1866. Martin T. Ward was an animal and sporting painter, the son of the artist and engraver William Ward. He studied under Landseer. He exhibited 39 works at the Royal Academy, British Institute and Suffolk Street Galleries in London. He is represented in the City Art Galleries of Preston, Sheffield and York. Unlined, in fine condition, unsigned by Ward. Signed at the base of the wall lower right by W. Richardson, who in colaboration with Ward probably painted most of the background.
