A portrait of a girl in a neoclassical dress, seated beneath autumnal vines by Percy Anderson (1850-1928.) Percy Anderson was an English theatre stage and costume designer, and portrait painter. Best known for his work with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree’s Company at His Majesty’s Theatre and the Royal Opera House to design costumes in 1900. Anderson also had sucsess as a portrait painter and his works hang in the National Portrait Gallery, the Louvre and at the British Museum. Anderson’s maiden shows influence of the great neoclassical painters of the time, including Lord Frederick Leighton. Monogram dated 1882. Canvas size: Height 71 cms (28 ins) Length 92 cms (36 ins.)
