Rare Jaques Chess Set with Commissioned Box

1900 - 1910, height of King 4.065" or 10.3cm, it was not unusual for wealthy clients to commission a box for a Jaques Chess Set.

This box has an inset coronet of a Marquis and a formal Jaques trade label inside. The initials are "MD" which we believe to attribute to Mervyn Dundas (The Marquis of Zetland) 1903 - 1989. The answer is 'Who knows' but the Marquis of Zetland was the only noble with these initials at the time.
