The manufacturing of these masterpieces rugs began early the 20th century. Carpets from Ghom or Qum city (south of Tehran) are known for their exquisite artistry with the pile of wool or silk. They are often manufactured with high knot density and have varied patterns, borrowed from different areas in Iran. It is also familiar with carpets produced entirely of silk, Silk-Ghom. Gardens, medallions or figural carpets with plant and animal motifs are common.
