Biography: Alfred de Breanski Senior is a highly collected artist who specialised in landscape paintings featuring the Scottish highlands and Welsh mountains. He also painted views of the Thames. His most popular works feature mountains bathed in evening sunlight, usually with sheep, cattle or a solitary figure in the distance.

The eldest son of Leopold, Breanski was born in London where he and his siblings followed similar pursuits; Gustave his younger brother specialised in marine paintings. His sister Julie was also an artist. From 1872 until 1918 Alfred exhibited at the Royal Academy; he also exhibited regularly at the Royal Cambrian Academy and Royal institute of oil painters. Having married a Welsh artist Annie Roberts they went on to have seven children. The most famous of his children, Alfred Fontville de Breanski, also became an artist painting in the same style as his father. In 1880 Alfred became a Freeman of the city of London.
